As we reflect on the joy and light that came with Christmas, we can begin to feel the stirring of internal striving to set intellectual goals in preparation for the New Year.  The striving pull of clamoring thoughts naturally rise, often without realizing we have received an unopened invitation to a place of quiet sacred space, one that welcomes the wings of our intellect to gently fold and nestle into union with our hearts, to sit in quiet with the Lord, and meet and commune with Him where he resides within.

It’s in that set apart place of quiet prayer; solitude, that sitting in God’s Presence, refreshes, equips, and heals our souls.  It seems we are most astute to listen and hear after nestling and quieting, intentionally quieting the noise within our heart until we effortlessly begin to commune with Him.  As he created the seasons, his gentle whisper longs for us to partner with what he is already at work doing and desires our company, one that also fills the longings deep within our souls.  We need only open and respond to that awaiting invitation…

May this poem be a gift to you upon this dawning of the New Year to read quietly and hear his invitation…

Come Share Some Time with Me

The turn is around the corner,

But pause, dear one, and wait,

Come sit and be…

Have some tea,

And share some time with me.

Breathe and walk in step with me,

I’ll set a peaceful pace.

Tomorrow will break with the dawn…

But for now, dear one, settle in,

Find your rest in Me,

Let’s grow together in all that will be.

Allow your soaring mind to gently fold its wings,

To nestle and rest in sweet union deep within your heart.

Let us meet there,

Let us commune,

In my home,

Where I will never part.

It’s meeting there that strivings cease,

Where rest is found…

Within our sacred retreat.

“Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.” Galatians 5:25 NLT

“Since this is the kind of life we have chosen, the life of the Spirit, let us make sure that we do not just hold it as an idea in our heads or a sentiment in our hearts, but work out its implications in every detail of our lives.”  Galatians 5:25 MSG

Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.” John 15:4 NLT

You’re blessed when you stay on course,
walking steadily on the road revealed by God.
You’re blessed when you follow his directions,
doing your best to find him.”  Psalm 119:1-2 MSG

“If you want to get warm you must stand near the fire: if you want to be wet you must get into the water. If you want joy, power, peace, eternal life, you must get close to, or even into, the thing that has them. They are not a sort of prize which God could, if He chose, just hand out to anyone.”

Some enjoy sitting in the quiet, some out walking in the splendor of creation, however he has uniquely formed each one, his invitation to spend undistracted listening time awaits us all.

May we find that sacred space that is intentional solitude to begin our New Year both in step and found in Him,
