The Place of Longing for Intimacy with God

The desire and longing for more of God, a connectedness, a closeness, a union, an intimacy that instills a pure love for others and spiritual freedom to soar above circumstances filled with his peace that passes all understanding is an invitation into His Presence.

The key to unlocking intimacy with God is in identifying our longings beneath our felt desires that manifest as passions or motivations.

There’s a place free from all the doing that can result in fatigue.

There’s a place of beingknowing and being known in His Presence that delights the soul and floods the interior life with light!

There’s a place where treading deeper is more soul nourishing than swimming wider…

a place where life abundantly not only trickles from a living stream, but begins to fill a reservoir to be shared.

” … My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” John 10:10, NLT

It’s in tending to our longings, our acknowledgement of God’s active work in our soul that cultivates an intimacy that fulfills the deepest thirst of the soul.

One that hears,

“You are celebrated, I love you, and keep step with me, we will journey at a peaceful pace.  I hear what’s resonating in your soul!”

“Since this is the kind of life we have chosen, the life of the Spirit, let us make sure that we do not just hold it as an idea in our heads or a sentiment in our hearts, but work out its implications in every detail of our lives. That means we will not compare ourselves with each other as if one of us were better and another worse. We have far more interesting things to do with our lives. Each of us is an original.” Galatians 5:25-26, MSG

Frail, vulnerable, humble humanity becomes a response to a loving invitation laid bare and finds in that place an embrace in the depths of the crevices with the Divine unconditional love anticipated and sought without understanding that the encounter behind the veil is found not in striving and getting but in yielding and receiving.

To reach for the sacredness of life and living is ironically and paradoxically not found in doing more, but in being less with the abundance found with greatest capacity when we are found in Him.

“and become one with him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith.” Philippians 3:9

Those divinely placed longings of the heart call to the deep recesses of the Spirit of God – and are not found in lack of wanting in His Presence.

“Deep calls to deep at the sound of Your waterfalls; All Your breakers and Your waves have rolled over me.” Psalm 42:7 NASV

There’s a raw beauty infused with His Power as layers of human pretension out of frailty are allowed to be gently peeled away – leaving all that is left to be the core, that very raw beauty of the true self created in His image.  The core that is then able to purely radiate with the glory of His Radiance because of humble yielding – which is in turn most powerful.

Whenever, though, they turn to face God as Moses did, God removes the veil and there they are—face-to-face! They suddenly recognize that God is a living, personal presence, not a piece of chiseled stone. And when God is personally present, a living Spirit, that old, constricting legislation is recognized as obsolete. We’re free of it! All of us! Nothing between us and God, our faces shining with the brightness of his face. And so we are transfigured much like the Messiah, our lives gradually becoming brighter and more beautiful as God enters our lives and we become like him.” 2 Corinthians 3:16-18 MSG

May the longings of your soul find solace in His Presence.
